Dear Ms. Lunelle,
Sunday, October 13, 2024 would mark to the day the 22 year anniversary held at the Landmark Crown Jewel of the City of Asheville "the Zebulon Baird Vance Cenotaph " that a gathering of citizens, organizations, University of Minnesota Professor of Black History Ms. Anna Stanley, the Honorable Sons of Confederate Veterans Zebulon Baird Vance Camp 19 Commander Jim Holbrook, a host of visitors and tourists to the Memorial gala sendoff of the Historic March Across Dixie.
The Master of Ceremony, the Sons of Confederate Veterans National Chief of Heritage Defense, the Honorable Roger McCredie would present a Proclamation from the National Commander in Chief of the Sons of Confederate Veterans the Honorable Ron Wilson presenting greetings to all present while defining the possible perils that would see me don in the uniform of the Southern Soldier, carrying and posting his Colors as I marched 20 miles a day, six days a week through North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and on to the Capitol Courthouse in Austin, Texas to ask the Acting Governor, Jim R. “Rick” Perry, to put back the Proclamation Plaques on the wall of the Supreme Court Building.
These plaques were presented to the Republic of Texas to honor the men of Texas for the Stand they made alongside the armies of the Confederate States of America in War for Southern Independence.
I had visited the Vance Cenoptah every year on this Anniversary. However, it was not possible this year as the rogue Jewish Mayor, Ester Manheimer and fellow Council Members’ (at her persuasion) betrayed the citizens of Asheville, disregarded the North Carolina Monument Protection Law and illegally removed both the Vance and Lee Cenotaphs after making a deal with the Mellon Foundation for a grant to do so while giving the impression that the Black Community was complicit in the illegal act.
I was very proud that the Black Vice Mayor voted “no” to the removal.
It is also with great regret that on this day I would learn from a decent Northern
friend a so-called History organization when he asked of them why they did not sell the Historic March Across Dixie Photo Journal? And the reply given to him was that it was too controversial and that the proceeds went to a right-wing organization. Another lie like the many we had dispelled on the journey to Texas.
Perhaps, I thought they could not stomach the many photos of the Black populous and their Southern White family loving and hugging on each other as we made our way across Dixie championing the Cause their ancestors made together.
PS. Rick Perry promised me and my brother, Terry Lee, that that plaques would come back up. When will Texas keep his promise?
God bless you!
Your brother,
