Open Letter & Report: Clyde A. Erwin High School

January 7, 2020
Clyde A. Erwin High School
Dear Ms. Lunelle,
I have opted to hold my year-end report to bring attention to a young black student's in school protest of Confederate symbols on the High School campus of Clyde A. Erwin High School located in the County of my home (Buncombe County North Carolina).
Young Aleah Crawford, a 14-year-old sophomore armed with the very same talking points posted on the website of the Southern Poverty Law Center to be used when attacking the presence of anything Confederate; spoke her lie to the students and local press; " the Confederate flag is a hate symbol for people of color".
Nearly every year in the month of February (Black History Month), I have don the uniform of the Southern soldier and posted the Southern Cross at the entrance of her school, while holding a conversation with parents, teachers, students and members of the community to highlight the role of the black Confederate soldier, and that of his family who earned a place of honor in support of the Confederate cause.
With this young student espousing her false narrative that was gaining momentum, I felt compelled to post the Colors at the front entrance of the school yesterday, January 6, 2020. I would be received with an overwhelming show of support from the students, parents, and the many who would pass me by.
And, I want to thank the Buncombe County Sheriff's Department for looking out for my safety, and well-being; to include the School's Head Resource Officer.
Today, January 7, 2020, I shall don the uniform of the Southern soldier and post the Colors in the Free Speech Zone on the campus of the University of North Carolina Asheville in protest of the unlawful actions at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill by its Board of Directors whose disregard of the rule of law surrounding the Confederate Cenotaph of Silent Sam that should warrant their impeachment. God bless you!
