Asheville Mayor Esther Manheimer & Zebulon Vance
And some wonder why anti-semitism is on the rise...
Dear Ms. Lunelle,
Approximately 9 years ago as I stood don in the uniform of the Southern Soldier, Southern Cross in hand at the base of the Honorable Governor Zebulon Baird Vance Cenotaph, a young Black girl would come to where I stood.
Mr. Edgerton, you need to go down to the County Courthouse, she said pointing to where the Confederate soldiers Cenotaph stood. The soldier can't even be seen because of the tree limbs covering it. And not even to mention the beer cans, cigarette butts, and trash on the ground around it that is no longer grass. Young Diamone Mays would challenge me to do something about it. Finally, after several weeks, the County Commission Chairman, the Honorable Nathan Ramsey would direct me to the City Mayor whose staff was responsible for the maintenance on and around the Cenotaph. The tree limbs were cut, grass sewn, and the area around the Cenotaph cleaned up.
The Texas Order of Saint George would learn of Ms. Mays efforts to clean up the Soldiers’ Cenotaph, and quickly made her the first person to be inducted into the Texas Order of Saint George living outside the State of Texas in a ceremony at the Dixie Barbeque Restaurant in Johnson City, Tennessee before a packed house. And not to forget the Medal she was also awarded.
Several months later the Confederate soldier would be removed from the base, and to this day some nine years later and hundreds of inquiries to the City, it has yet to be seen again.
I note here that the 1st Black woman Mayor, the Honorable Terry Bellamy, would ask me to present a program about the Confederate soldier and the Confederacy. She would promise to obtain a grant for me to do so. Unfortunately, for me, my schedule could not accommodate. God bless Mayor Bellamy!
And now here we are with the Jewish woman Mayor of Asheville, Ester Manheimer, leading her Council members in disregarding the North Carolina Monument Protection Law to dismantle the Cenotaph of the two-time North Carolina Governor, State Senator, most decorated citizen of the State, Confederate Colonel who just happened to own 6 African slaves… no different than the Father of the Nation, the Honorable President George Washington, and the Honorable President Thomas Jefferson who wrote in the Declaration of Independence that "all men are created equal"!
Manheimer said about taking down Asheville’s landmark memorial to Vance:
this is one of the many things that can be done to further the dismantling of institutionalized racism.
She moves on with her dirty deeds, disregarding the Monument Protection Law that has no mettle. No rule of law to stop her romp (North Carolina Supreme Court ruled that the 26 North Carolina, who sued, has no standing).
The former slaves received high praise from the Ladies Memorial Association and its President, the Honorable Ms. Cordelia Aston (the Mayor’s wife) for their honorable and esteemed service to the Confederacy who proposed that to the Association that a Cenotaph should be built to honor them.
