Dear Ms. Lunelle,
On this morning of October 7, 2024, as I made my way across the I-240 overpass with the Southern Cross in hand, people were blowing their car horns and shouting out my name at a rate that seemed more than the usual bravado that I am use to getting which is saying a lot.
One elderly couple would stop and tell me that seeing me gave them a sense that things were getting back to normal. And the wife gave me a big hug as would her husband who she asked of him to give me a $20.00 donation. And he remarked, “gladly baby” as the Rebel Yell could be heard from several cars passing by.
As the couple turned to walk away, a car pulled up next to where we stood and the window rolled down as the man driving said to the passenger..."Honey, it can't be so bad out here, ‘here's HK” he said while pointing to me and shouting out this proclamation!
“God bless you, HK” they both would say as they too handed me a $20 bill.
The elderly couple smiled as they waved and walked away.
There are no schools open here because there is no running water. So, I decided to furl my flag and head for home because I knew my babies would surely come. God bless you!
Your brother,
HK
