Dear Ms. Lunelle,
Each year for the last ten years you have helped me make this journey, and my babies, their babies, and their babies’ babies send their thanks as well as their Church family. They wasted no time in the questions they had written out for me.
Fittingly, Elizabeth would ask the first....”Mr. HK, Senator Elizabeth Warren's declaration on the Senate floor was that the Confederate armed forces were traitors. Please beg those of us present to differ because there are no recorded actions of a treason trial in United States History to support this claim. Are we wrong, and if not; then this is a lie, is it not?”
“Just a moment, Mr. HK,” Charlene would interrupt. “Before you answer that question. If we are to accept Warren's premise; are we to surmise that Secession was illegal, and that those States, our South Carolina in particular, had no legal right to entertain the act? And if I may, was not States Rights a term used to describe the rights of a State to buy and sell slaves?”
Let me answer the first question, Charlene. I would supplicate that Senator Warren, in order to justify herself and the actions of her committee, stood on the floor of the United States Senate where laws are made, and made those accusations. And not one Senator from the North or South repudiated her claims. Why, I asked? One cannot believe that not a single one did not know about the Bill of Attainder, Article 9 and 10, Secession.1 of each in the United States Constitution that makes it illegal for such discourse. (Bill of Attainder...An item of legislation prohibited by the United States Constitution that inflicts Attainder without judicial process.)
