NAACP PAST PRESIDENT DEMANDS MANATEE COUNTY PUT BACK HISTORIC MONUMENT
Bradenton, FL - This morning a past NAACP President told the Manatee County Commission that they should restore the historic monument that was removed from the Manatee County historic courthouse.
"As a black man, a veteran, and a civil rights activist, Southerners I ask you, no I demand, that you restore the illegally removed memorial," said HK Edgerton at the regularly scheduled meeting of the Commission during public comment.
The monument was removed after protests that included members of Black Lives Matter and was lead by Charles Smith, a Democrat Commissioner who marched with monument protesters raising a clenched fist through the streets of downtown Bradenton.
Edgerton said he "was saddened to see republicans in Manatee County hold hands with the radical left in the Cenotaph's removal, but I do understand that they were terrorized and threatened and some women on the Commission were afraid and acquiesced to the threats".
Edgerton was in town from North Carolina where he made an appearance at the Gamble Mansion State Historic site over the weekend and wanted to personally ask let the new commissioners know they should do the "patriotic thing" and restore the Memorial.
