On May 10th of each year, the Great State of North Carolina recognizes Confederate Memorial Day.
This year Commander James Mike Parris of the Jackson Rangers Camp 1917 Sons of Confederate Veterans would direct his men to assemble on Main Street in Sylva, (Jackson County) North Carolina, directly below where the Confederate soldiers Cenotaph stands on a hill some 100 flighted steps straight up on the Old Courthouse grounds at the pond below.
When I arrived at noon, the Jackson Rangers, don in the Confederate soldiers uniforms with many variations of the Southern Cross posted, had already been there for over three hours.
